A gay teenager who gained attention for crowdfunding some $140,000 to get educated, because his parents rejected him when he came out to them. They said that he should either keep attending the homophobic church with ‘gay cure therapy’ practices or leave. So, as a result he was disowned and left homeless. Owen decided that he would use the extra funds to create a scholarship for rejected LGBT youth. The lesbian TV host and charity activist Ellen DeGeneres fell in love with this idea and donated $25,000 to his project. A teacher from his high-school launched his crowdfunding campaign, then Owen appeared on The Ellen Show for the first time and admitted while at high-school he was couch-surfing before moving in with his friend’s family.
