Two women were walking through the area of Alexandria in Sydney when they noticed a culprit spray-painting the wall. As Laura Hunter and April Long passed by, they noticed the message read: “Bash a gay today.” As the vandal noticed them, he pulled his hat down to cover his face, so that the witnesses were unable to identify him. A NSW Police spokesperson said officers from Redfern Police Area Command were investigating the vandalism and called for anyone with more information to come forward. Australia is considered to be an LGBT-friendly country, though homophobia is unfortunately quite common there because last year, when Australia was making a historic decision whether to legalize marriage equality or not, anti-LGBT campaigners activated not to let this happen. As we all know, it did not work, because marriage equality is now a reality for Australians.
