Actor Cameron Monaghan has announced via social media he is exiting the US series Shameless, where he played a groundbreaking gay character Ian Gallagher. He wrote that he was just 15 when the show began for him, he was very subtle and immature, as a man, as a person, as an actor. He grew up, he developed, his character did as well, his personality was formed, he became who he is now thanking to this experience, but as all good good things, it must end one day, so his last episode of Shameless is already filmed and he knew it in advance, but did not want to upset his audience before they see the end of Ian’s journey with their own eyes. “I wanted this season to be a surprise for the audience, allowing them to experience Ian’s unsure journey with his character. This role has been a joy to inhabit, a wild and special ride, and I’d like to thank #Shameless as well as you, the viewers, for being there with him. Goodbye, Ian Clayton Gallagher. We’ll meet again?” he wrote.
