Gay teen asked his straight friend to go to homecoming together

17-year-old Alexander Duarte, who attends Valley High School in Santa Ana, California, worked for weeks on a plan to ask his straight friend Erick Pineda to the dance, and the whole viral community appreciated his efforts. Pineda, who is captain of the football team, was surprised by the crowd of his teachers and classmates who were there for lunch cheering his name while Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” played. Along his path, a giant, colorful sign read: “I know I’m GAY but can I take you STRAIGHT 2 HOMECOMING?” Then Alex revealed himself and Erick, who was overwhelmed, had nothing else to do rather than to accept such a lovely proposal. “I’m very grateful to be the captain of the football team. The team is very supportive and multiple teammates have approached me to congratulate me and have given me R-E-S-P-E-C-T for my actions,” he said, adding that he is attracted to girls, but he will have a billion chances to dance with girls,, and Alexander has the last chance to see that his school loves, accepts and supports him the way he is.
