Tanzanian men arrested for homosexuality are free on bail

10 men who were arrested last weekend in Tanzania on suspicion of engaging in homosexual activity as they were caught attending an event that allegedly was a gay wedding are now free on bail, Thomas Reuters Foundation reports. Gay sex is illegal in Tanzania and it can be punished up to life imprisonment, the men cannot face such charges now because there is no evidence that they had sex with one another, but the investigation still continues, and if the proofs are found, they will be brought back to custody and convicted. “I have dealt with many such cases and given the high level of homophobia in the country, I don’t think this will be the end for my clients,” said their lawyer, noting that there are high chances for his clients to be harassed and arrested again.
