The Empire actor has rejected the show’s plotline which would depict him being romantically interested ion a white man, it has been revealed. Smollett plays gay musician Jamal Lyon on the Fox drama series told SiriusXM’s The Clay Cane Show that the producers told him about the idea of creating a love story for his character and a white man, but Smollett said ‘no’, because it is important for him to show healthy relationships within the black queer community, which is strongly misrepresented on the modern television. He is not against white men, he does not deny that white men love black men and create amazing loving families, but still, there are too many gay black men, especially young ones, who want to see people like them on screens, he would love to see a black gay couple on TV when he was young, but stereotypes made it virtually impossible, so now it is time to change it.
