Anti-gay Republican loses re-election

Utah Republican Rep. Mia Love has conceded defeat in her re-election battle against her LGBT-supportive rivals. Love, who had represented Utah’s 4th district in the US House of Representatives since 2015, conceded defeat to Democratic Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams after the midterm elections in the country earlier this month. The result took several weeks to establish as just 694 votes separated Love and McAdams, out of the 269,000 cast in the race.In messages to supporters quoted in Metro Weekly, she referred to her opponent as a moderate person because he had celebrated the SCOTUS ruling that legalized same-sex marriages on the federal level. The comments were dismissed by LGBT+ activists as a brazen attempt to appeal to the conservative population of the state of Utah. In her concession speech on November 26, Love accused Donald Trump of her defeat, claiming that he behaved inappropriately towards her and said that his temperament was an “insufficient way to implement sincere service and policy.”
