Pat Manuel made history last night when he became the first transgender man to fight at a professional level in US boxing, and moreover, to win the first professional boxing fight. But Manuel himself laughs when his victory is called historic because he has never wanted to make history, all he wanted was to live his life and to do what he loves. “I think if people knew what it took to get to this moment. It’s been almost two years since I’ve been in a ring,” he added. The sportsman also expressed respect to his rival and thanked him for fighting with him as equal, as a man fighting with a man, with no stupid stereotypes and transphobic prejudice. When Manuel heard boos from the audience, he said: “I hear some fans aren’t happy. It’s OK, I’ll be back. I’ll make them happy.”
