The 26-year-old Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald star, who has been openly queer from the age of 20, said that he might have already been dead if he had not been in closet, because even minor signs of his queerness noticed by the classmates in his ‘privileged’ private school turned him into a target for a terrible abuse. “People whose parents gave money to the school had carte blanche,” he told The Sunday Times, before finishing the thought by adding: “To put a knife against my throat.” The actor added that his abusers had not been punished and the school staff did not react on multiple incidents because people who hurt him were the children of reach parents and that 9is why it seemed possible for the staff to close their eyes on what they did. He added that his “best friend for the first two weeks was a person of colour on financial support who got slightly bad grades, so was kicked out.”
