Assassin’s Creed Odyssey faced accusations of straightwashing

The roleplaying video game is based on the idea that players are free to choose their character’s gender, playing either as Alexios or Kassandra, define their sexuality and craft their own adventure through Ancient Greece. However, the players complain that they are still encouraged to form opposite-sex relationships within the gaming environment, and the characters ‘storylines involved parenting even if players did not pick it as an option. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey creative director Jonathan Dumont issued a statement i9n which he admitted the sexuality mark being missed and apologized for all the discomfort that it might have caused. Dumont explained that the creators’ intention was to focus on the characters’ attachment to their bloodline. “Our goal was to let players choose between a utilitarian view of ensuring your bloodline lived on or forming a romantic relationship,” he wrote, admitting that their vision was “poorly executed”. He promised that the players would not be encouraged into long-lasting heterosexual relationships against their will in the next edition of the game
