Transgender people and LGBT+ groups have slammed the US Supreme Court decision to approve Donald Trump administration’s ban on transgender people who undergo or have undergone gender-related treatment from joining the American military forces. Peter Renn of Lambda Legal, a law firm representing transgender military personnel in the case, said that even though there are debates whether the ban itself is discriminatory or not (we strongly believe it is), it gives Trump’s administration more space to discrimination against certain groups of people without a doubt. OutServe-SLDN Executive Director Andy Blevins said that trans servicepeople have made the military forces bigger and stronger. “The Supreme Court’s decision to allow the Trump-Pence Administration to institute their wanting and discriminatory practices while the litigation proceeds is disappointing — our siblings-in-arms deserve better.” He wrote. Sarah McBride of Human Rights Campaign said of the Trump military transgender ban ruling that it affects not only the trans population and not only armed forces, but the whole country, as it is threatening for the American national security.
