Nigerian police tell gay people to leave or be persecuted

Dolapo Badmos, a Chief Superintendent and Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, wrote on Instagram that Nigeria was not a place for ‘homosexually inclined’ people, so if you are one, you should leave the country. And if you know such people, you should immediately inform the police about it for the action to be taken immediately, as there is a law in Nigeria, according to which homosexuality is prohibited. The spokesperson cited the law, it reads: “A person who registers, operates or participates in gay clubs, societies or organizations, directly or indirectly makes public show of same-sex amorous relationship in Nigeria commits an offense and is liable on conviction to a term of 10 years.” Anyone convicted of entering into a same-sex marriage contract or civil union faces up to 14 years imprisonment”. In conclusion she told gay Nigerians to beware.
