The attack on Jussie Smollett is investigated by FBI

The federal government agency—which has powers to intervene in serious crime investigations including hate crimes—will probe the homophobic and racist attack against the Empire actor in Chicago on January 29th. Out TV star Smollett, who plays a high-profile gay character on Fox show Empire, was rushed to the hospital after the group of thugs poured a chemical substance on him chanting racist and homophobic slurs and pro-Trump slogans. In a previous statement, Chicago Police said that there were two attackers who abused Smollett verbally and physically. “The offenders began to batter the victim with their hands about the face and poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim. At some point during the incident, one of the offenders wrapped a rope around the victim’s neck. The offenders fled the scene,” the statement reads, “Detectives are currently working to gather video, identify potential witnesses and establish an investigative timeline”
