SOPHIE was misgendered on Grammy red carpet

The 32-year-old musician from Glasgow, Scotland, was nominated for the Best Dance/Electronic Album for her debut 2018 LP Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, which was won by Justice’s Woman Worldwide. But during the Recording Academy pre-show coverage she was clearly heard being addressed by the journalists with the wrong pronouns. Speaking to celebrity interviewer Dana Blair on the red carpet, SOPHIE discussed her album, explaining that her nomination “means that hopefully more people will be aware of what I do.” SOPHIE, who has produced music for high-profile artists including Charli XCX and Madonna, was then asked about which musicians she worked with at the moment. “I’ve fallen into that trap before,” she responded, to which Blair said: “He’s like, ‘not doing it again.’” The interview continued without SOPHIE or Blair noticing what has happened.
