Lady Gaga sent a message of love to LGBT+ fans after winning the Oscar and noted that it was time for the ceremony to step away from the gender binary in its categories. “I have a true dream in our future as we evolve as humanity that these award shows not be male and female, but that we include everyone,” the singer wrote. T he MTV Video Music Awards went gender-neutral in in 2017, replacing the Best Female Video and Best Male Video awards with a unified category, Artist of the Year. But currently it is rather an exception than a rule and no acting award rejected gender-segregated categories so far. The A Star is Born star picked up the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Shallow”, and was also nominated for Best Actress—though she lost out to The Favorite‘s Olivia Colman.
