On February, 25th, 2019, actor and America’s Got Talent host Terry Crews tweeted a link to a New York Times opinion piece called ‘Why does Obama scold black boys?’ in which he took offence to the piece being written by a woman. He did not believe that a woman might be competent enough to give advice on how to raise boys into men. Responding to a user who said his previous comments threw women out of the conversation, Crews said: “I REPEAT: Women can speak with us. Just not FOR US.” In a now-deleted tweet, Crews tweeted: “I’ve reiterated many times that same-sex couples and single parents can successfully raise a child. But I believe paternal [love] AND maternal love are like vitamins and minerals to humanity.” As one of the users said that a child would not starve if they are loved by parents of one gender only, the actor replied “But they will be severely malnourished.” Responding to the backlash of his previous tweets, Crews tweeted an apology saying: “I apologize to anyone who was hurt by my “severely malnourished” tweet. It was in response to someone who said kids wouldn’t “starve”. It was poorly worded so I deleted it.”
