The Color Purple actress Oluwaseyi (Seyi) Omooba says homosexuality ‘isn’t right’

Hamilton star Aaron Lee Lambert posted on Twitter on March 15 a screenshot of a Facebook post published under Omooba’s profile in 2014 in which she denied that people could be born gay and noted that she did not believe homosexuality to be right, and even the legal approval of it did not convince her to accept it as a norm . “Do you still stand by this post? Or are you happy to remain a hypocrite? Seeing as you’ve now been announced to be playing an LGBTQ character, I think you owe your LGBTQ peers an explanation. Immediately,” Lambert called out his colleague. She does not appear to have answered Lambert’s post and did not comment the backlash in general. Omooba is set to play the lead role of Celie in a musical production of The Color Purple, based on the Pulitzer prize-winning novel by Alice Walker, the Steven Spielberg film and the Broadway production. Celie is an abuse survivor who eventually learns how to be confident and independent after meeting Shug, a woman with whom she develops an intimate, sexual relationship.
