Iowa Republicans cut off trans healthcare funding

The Republicans of Iowa have launched an 11-hour plot to cut off the healthcare funding for the patients who require gender-related treatment. The new amendment to make it legally possible was offered by Senator Mark Costello and it states that the civill rights measures “shall not require any state or local government unit or tax-supported district to provide for sex reassignment surgery or any other cosmetic, reconstructive, or plastic surgery procedure related to transsexualism, hermaphroditism, gender identity disorder, or body dysmorphic disorder.” LGBT campaigners of the state are seriously concerned about such a law because it would mean a step back in transgender rights and they consider it to be a direct attack on the freedoms of the transgender Iowans. LGBT+ rights campaigners say the provisions are a “deliberate and brazen attempt to quietly rollback the rights of transgender Iowans,” handing officials the power to indefinitely block transgender healthcare provisions.
