The openly gay ‘Pose’ actor Billy Porter was carried into the Met Gala, which this year celebrated all things camp, on a litter carried by six shirtless men. The look designed by The Blonds takes an inspiration from the Egyptian history and mythology. Porter dressed as a “Sun God,” reports Vogue, who spoke to the actor ahead of his red carpet appearance. As well as his show-stopping outfit, Porter was also blinged out with eye-popping accessories, including a 24-karat gold headdress and custom gold shoes designed by Giuseppe Zanotti. “What I love about having it at the Met Gala, and contextualizing camp, is it brings honor to a word and genre that can be discounted very often, or thought of as cheesy. When it’s done properly, it’s one of the highest forms of fashion and art,” said the actor, noting that he had discussed his outfit with the ‘Pose’ creator Ryan Murphy and they both fascinated Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, so the idea to allude to the Ancient Egypt was considered the best.
