Taron Egerton sees no difference between kissing men and women onscreen

The actor who identifies as straight but was chosen to play a gay music legend Sir Elton John in the new biopic Rocketman, says that being passionate with Richard Madden (who, by the way, is also straight) was not at all harder than with female film partners he used to work with before. “For me, kissing a man onscreen is no less appealing than kissing a woman onscreen,” Egerton told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m not in any way repulsed by the male form. It’s an uncomfortable thing regardless of who you’re with,” the actor adds, also noting that sexuality is not defining acting skills – if a gay actor is a good professional then he can easily play a straight role and vice versa. He thinks it would be inappropriate to ask actors whom they sleep with before casting them for certain roles. The fact that Egerton identifies as straight – and he’s been with his girlfriend, Emily Thomas, for two years – makes no difference, he says, as he threw himself into the role “a hundred percent.” Egerton added that everyone is “obsessed” with the gay plot line of Rocketman. He said: ”I have spoken to gay people for whom it’s not a problem, and I’ve spoken to gay people for whom it is a problem.”
