The Liberal party in Australia has said it will stand by its candidate Allan Green, whose remarks against the LGBT community have recently resurfaced. Green is running as a candidate for the right-wing Liberal party in Greenway in Sydney’s west, and told the Guardian that past anti-gay posts did not reflect his personal views and opinions, the party agreed that the only reason why he wrote comments against same-sex marriages and parenting was that he was a Christian Democratic Party (CDP) candidate at the time, and this party is known for its support of what they call ‘traditional family values’. “In that situation you are tied to the policies of the party,” Green said. “It isn’t necessarily a personal viewpoint. I wish everybody the best. I haven’t got any ill will to anybody.” The Liberal party has experienced a number of setbacks and controversies in recent weeks.
