The report, published on Monday (May 13), suggests even more hurdles along the way for the legislation that would extend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include gender identity and sexual orientation as categories, discriminating against by is federally illegal. The bill is to ensure LGBT+ people can’t be discriminated against in areas including public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, credit, and the jury system. The senior administration official told the Washington Blade in a statement via email that Donald Trump and his officials are against discrimination in any shape, but the bill in its current form they treat as potentially dangerous for parental and conscience rights. The statement comes days after nearly 100 conservative activists urged conservative lawmakers to oppose the Equality Act in a letter dated May 10.
