Israel Folau has had his contract terminated by Rugby Australia. He was fired back in April for his anti-LGBT Instagram comments, but the official hearing that confirmed the contract termination was held only on May 17. According to the BBC, RA chief executive Raelene Castle told a press conference: “Rugby Australia did not choose to be in the situation, but Rugby Australia’s position remains that Israel, through his actions, left us with no choice but to pursue the course of action resulting in today’s outcome.” She insisted that inclusion is a main value RA is going to continue standing for. Folau, in turn, said that such a decision left him deeply saddened and he thinks that his Christian faith was attacked. He added that he was just sharing God’s word and would continue doing so, and it should not have affected his ability to do his job and to play for his country.
