Dutee Chand becomes the first sportswoman in India to publicly reveal she is queer. She did not use terms ‘lesbian’, ‘bisexual’, ‘pansexual’ or whatever, but she revealed that she is romantically connected with a woman, so she probably goes under the queer umbrella. The 100m sprinter, who holds the title as India’s fastest woman and recently won two silver medals at the 2018 Asian Games, has revealed for the first time details about her relationship and said she believed in everyone’s right to be with whomever they want. Chand is currently training for next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo and she is focused on sport. But after the Olympics she wants to pay more attention to her private life. “I have always supported the rights of those who want to be in a same-sex relationship. It is an individual person’s choice. Currently, my focus is on the World Championships and the Olympic Games but in the future, I would like to settle down with her,” she said.
