President Donald Trump reportedly plans to install Ken Cuccinelli as director of US Citizenship and Immigration Services. The former AG of Virginia is known for his anti-LGBT views and attempts to criminalize oral and anal sex. The President had reportedly planned to hire Cuccinelli to coordinate border policy, but will instead now nominate him to lead the entire immigration system to succeed him. The agency’s current director, L. Francis Cissna, resigned his post last month and it has been suggested that the Trump administration persuaded him to do so. However it appears unlikely that Cuccinelli will win the necessary Senate approval. Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has previously expressed his dislike of Cucuinelli when he was offered as a possible candidate for secretary of Homeland Security. As Virginia’s attorney general, Cuccinelli campaigned to hold on to anti-sodomy laws which banned anal and oral sex between consenting adults, both gay and straight.
