Betty DeGeneres, whose husband sexually abused her now-famous daughter, is deeply sorry that she did not believe Ellen when she told her about what had happened. 89-year-old woman says that due to lack of her capacity to listen to her daughter then she forced her to live with this pain and to make it public after all these years. “I live with that regret, and I wouldn’t want that for any other parent. If someone in your life has the courage to speak out, please believe them,” she says now. The comments come just days after Ellen DeGeneres revealed in Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman that she was sexually abused by her stepfather. She initially did not want to tell her mom not to upset her, but when Ellen spoke out, the mother refused to believe.
