Tracy Single, 22, from Houston, Texas, was found dead at the gas station on July 30. The exact cause of her death is yet to be confirmed but the local newspapers insist it is quite unlikely it was natural. It took law enforcement two weeks to identify her with the help of local LGBT+ activist Dee Dee Watters, who organized a Town Hall meeting on August 11. “Rest in power and peace Tracy,” wrote Monica Roberts, a Houston-based transgender advocate. “You were taken away from us way too soon.” Single was from New Orleans but moved to Houston earlier this year. She is the latest victim of the “epidemic of violence” against the transgender community, which disproportionately targets black trans women.
