Pose star Indya Moore made a splash at Daily Front Row’s annual Fashion Media Awards, and their look was aimed to highlight the problem of tansphobic murders. Alongside their Oscar de la Renta gown, Moore donned earrings comprised of portraits of the 16 black transgender women who have been murdered in the US so far in 2019. In their speech Moore said that it was an honor for them to speak in such an expensive venue in front of all these wealthy people, and they are not going to waste this opportunity to bring an important message to this influential public. I accept this award in honor of the truth that the best award, and the award we all deserve, is to be able to get home safe. I accept this award in good faith that my recognition doesn’t lead to the erasure of other trans and gender non-conforming folks who also deserve healthcare, housing, safety, and visibility,” Moore said, adding that transgender visibility is not only showing trans models on magazine covers and casting trans actors in films, it is keeping the poor part of trans population alive and safe. Moore’s earrings were designed by Areeayl Yoseefaw, who explained on Instagram that the concept was originally created to honor their late grandmother.
