TV personality Peter Andre has slammed the idea of uniting the award’s Best Male Artist and Best Female Artist categories into one gender-neutral category. Andre lashed out against the alleged move saying people get “offended way too easily nowadays”. He is a singer himself, but he has never been nominated for this award. Andre’s comments come after reports emerged that the Brit Awards is considering making the major change for 2021, after three-time winner and eleven-time nominee Sam Smith revealed that gender binary categories are not suitable for them anymore. Andre wrote that he supported Smith and other non-binary people in being truly themselves, but to his mind gender-neutral categories are just a “way too far”. “By all means add a brand new gender-neutral category, but what’s wrong with celebrating the exceptional people in the music industry who identify as men and women? I don’t get it. The problem is people get offended way too easily nowadays,” he wrote.
