Big Mouth co-creator says sorry for “missing the mark”

The co-creator of Netflix cartoon comedy Big Mouth has issued an apology for the scene in which the character Ali came out as pansexual but kind of misled her classmates about what it means, saying that nobody rather than pansexuals would date trans and non-binary people. In a statement on Twitter, co-creator Andrew Goldberg admitted the scene “missed the mark” after fans complained about the show’s definition of the relation between sexuality and gender identity. “Any time we try to define something as complex as human sexuality, it’s super challenging, and this time we could have done better,” he wrote, thanking people from the LGBT+ community for opening his eyes on the real state of affairs and apologizing to those parts of the queer community that felt misrepresented. “Thank you to the trans, pan, and bi communities for further opening our eyes to these important and complicated issues of representation. We are listening and we look forward to delving into all of this in future seasons,” the statement concludes
