Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power will be welcoming its first non-binary character, voiced by writer and activist Jacob Tobia, who identifies as gender non-confirming. They will be playing the role of shape-shifting, non-binary, reptilian mercenary Double Trouble. Tobia said in the interview to Deadline that to be a part of the non-binary inclusion of this show is a dream coming true for them. “Having non-binary representation in animated shows for young folks is just so vital because young people today are already understanding that gender is diverse and a broad spectrum from a super early age,” they said, adding that it’s time for children’s show to start reflecting society the way it is in all its diversity. Tobia announced they were joining the She-Ra cast in an Instagram post to their fans, joking that the role was fabulous for them because “I’m just playing myself”.
