Supernova follows gay couple Sam (played by Colin Firth) and Tusker (played by Tucci) as they journey around England in an RV visiting friends, family and places from their past, restoring Tusker’s memory as he was diagnosed with dementia. However, their journey becomes even more complicated when old secrets emerge and the strength of their relationship and Tusker’s illness progresses, creating new challenges. The film is the second feature from director Harry Macqueen who won acclaim with his debut film Hinterland in 2014. The film was shot in just six weeks in England’s Lake District and recently wrapped filming. While both Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci are straight in real life, both have played gay characters on the big screen. Firth was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for his turn as a depressed gay university professor in A Single Man. Tucci has played various gay characters in films such as The Devil Wears Prada and Burlesque.
