Robyn Crawford reveals what connected her and Whitney Houston

Seven years after the singer’s death Crawford’s memoir, titled A Song for You: My Life with Whitney Houston, is set to be published by Penguin Random House on November 12. She told NBC that there was a deep connection between her and Whitney, and this closeness had many different shades, in part physical intimacy. Crawford shared that she and Whitney used to lock lips and spend a night together, just once, and it was not so intention for both, it just happened because their friendship was so close that it grew into something much bigger and deeper. It was a secret side of their publicly visible relationships and Houston did not want it to continue because she was afraid that it might ruin her reputation. Crawford agreed, the two never stopped loving each other and never lost a bond, but never viewed it from the sexual perspective anymore. Crawford was an out lesbian back then and now she is married to a woman. Houston was not a lesbian and even this one-time experience of expressing her sexual fluidity might cost her career at that time. Asked why she wanted to share their story now, Crawford said: “I watched her rise to the top of her game and I felt compelled to share who that woman was behind all of the fame. I never envisioned speaking publicly about my life and then I asked myself the question: ‘What would Whitney want? Would she understand that the time is now?’”
