Politician who called Pride a misleading ideology is now suspended

According to Salisbury Journal, councilor Mary Douglas was removed from the portfolio for social mobility and skills on Tuesday, November 12, “with immediate effect”, but she is still assigned as a councilor. Leader of the council Philip Whitehead told the publication took the responsibility for removing Douglas as a portfolio holder and thanked her for everything she had done on this position. Last week the Tory politician rejected a motion to give a £1,000 grant towards Salisbury Pride parade, saying that she loved and supported LGBT people, but not the idea of Pride, which she called a misleading ideology run by a powerful lobby. “I do not want to be a part of promoting this, and I want to be clear this is not just my view, I represent a large number of people, some who are afraid to say something,” she said.
