Love Island is accused of appropriating queer culture

The dating show based on coupling and re-coupling men and women caused confusion among watchers on January 13 even before the episode was aired. A contestant named Ollie was talking about hunting. Its latest spell of scandal comes after the first challenge of the series was called ‘Spill The Tea’, fanning fury from the community who accused the show of “appropriating queer culture”. Facts about the contestants were read out, and they had to guess who it was referring to. If they were wrong, they were dunked into a huge teapot. The facts ranged from a member’s favorite sex poses to the amount of sex partners throughout the life. But the use of the term, which has its history in queer black drag culture, angered LGBT watchers.
