The out lesbian political activist and comedian joined GBBO three years ago, when it moved from the state broadcaster (BBC) to the private one (Channel 4). And now she announces that she is leaving the cooking show. Toksvig, 61, said she is departing from the show to “spend more time” on other projects. She thanked the wonderful crew, who became her close friends, including co-host Noel Fielding, whose future is also uncertain as his hosting partner leaves – he might be left as the only host or find a new fellow presenter, and this is if he does not decide to leave too. “Bake Off is a wonderful program which has already proved it can happily withstand a change of hosting personnel. The reason for that, of course, is that the true stars of the show are the bakers themselves. I wish everyone well,” Toksvig said.
